Storm-damaged commercial parade of shops being assessed by a loss assessor in Ireland

Storm damage to your premises is rarely as simple as the insurer first suggests

A commercial property policy will typically respond to storm damage across the full external fabric of your building: the roof and its coverings, the facade, cladding and rainscreen panels, glazing and shopfronts, fixed signage, external structures such as canopies, walls and outbuildings, and the drainage that carries water away. The difficulty is that storm damage is often hidden, progressive and easy to understate, and the insurer’s first offer is frequently built around a patch repair rather than proper reinstatement.

Our job is to read your policy carefully, scope the true extent of the loss, and present a claim the insurer cannot reasonably reduce. We act for you, the policyholder, not the insurer. The insurer’s loss adjuster is a professional doing a job for the company that pays them; our role is to put forward your full entitlement so the two sides meet on fair ground.

  • Roof & structure coverings, slates, flashings, fascias and timbers
  • Facade & cladding rainscreen, render, panels and external walls
  • Glazing & signage shopfronts, windows and fixed external signs
  • Drainage & water ingress gutters, downpipes and consequential internal damage

The areas where storm losses add up

Storm damage is rarely confined to one part of a building. A single named storm can lift slates, breach the envelope and drive water deep into the structure, and the secondary damage often costs more than the obvious repair. We scope every category so nothing is left off the claim.

From the roof and structure through to ruined stock and lost trade, we document and value each loss line by line and present it as one coherent claim the insurer cannot quietly trim.

  • Roof & structure lifted slates, torn membranes, displaced flashings and movement
  • Glazing & shopfront smashed fronts, blown-in windows and curtain walling
  • Signage & external signs, canopies, fencing, walls and outbuildings
  • Stock, contents & interruption ruined goods, fittings and lost trade where covered

The first 48 hours decide how much you recover

In the immediate aftermath of a storm, two things matter above all: making the premises safe, and protecting your evidence. Carry out emergency works to prevent the damage getting worse, such as sheeting a roof or boarding a broken shopfront, and keep every receipt. Your policy expects you to mitigate further loss, and reasonable emergency costs are usually recoverable.

Notify your insurer promptly, but do not let urgency cost you. Document the damage thoroughly with photographs and video before any permanent repair work begins. Once a roof is re-slated or a wall is re-rendered, the proof of what happened is gone, and with it your leverage. Speak to us before you agree any figure or sign anything.

Reinstatement cost is not the same as the first offer

An insurer’s opening position is often based on the cheapest route back to weatherproof, not on restoring your building to the standard your policy actually promises. The true reinstatement cost, the figure you are entitled to, includes proper materials, professional fees, VAT where applicable, and the secondary damage a storm leaves behind. We close that gap by scoping the loss in full and evidencing it line by line, then negotiating on equal technical footing.

Storm losses spread out of sight, through soaked insulation, behind cladding and into electrics, so a surface assessment misses them. A first offer often funds a patch and leaves you to pay the difference for a proper, lasting repair. Closure and lost trade are real losses too, yet easy to leave off a storm claim; where your cover allows for it, we quantify the interruption alongside the property damage.

  • The hidden damage gap we scope the whole loss, not just what shows on the day
  • Patch repair vs reinstatement we build the claim around the standard your policy promises
  • The interruption left out we quantify lost trade where your cover allows

A winter storm tore half the roof off our warehouse and the insurer’s first offer barely covered a patch. The team scoped the full reinstatement, including the soaked stock we had written off, and the final settlement was multiples of that first figure.

Our shopfront was blown in overnight and we had to close. They organised the emergency boarding, dealt with the loss adjuster from start to finish, and pursued the lost trade as well as the repairs. We just kept the business going while they handled it.

Your questions, answered

We work on a no win, no fee basis. Our fee is a percentage of the settlement we secure for you, agreed in writing before we start, so there is nothing to pay up front. If your claim is not paid, you do not pay us a fee. The initial site visit and policy review are free and carry no obligation.

Make the premises safe and carry out emergency works to stop further damage, such as sheeting an exposed roof or boarding a broken shopfront, and keep every receipt. Photograph and video everything before any permanent repair begins, then call us before you agree a figure. Acting quickly protects both your safety and your evidence.

A first offer is often based on the cheapest route back to weatherproof rather than the full reinstatement your policy promises. Storm damage spreads out of sight, into insulation, behind cladding and into electrics, so a surface assessment misses much of it. We scope the whole loss and evidence it line by line so the figure reflects what you are actually entitled to.

Where your policy includes business interruption cover, the income you lose while the premises are unusable can form part of the claim alongside the property damage. This is one of the most commonly under-claimed elements of a storm loss. We quantify the interruption and present it as part of one coherent claim.

Yes. We manage the claim end to end, from the first site visit through documenting and lodging the claim to negotiating directly with the insurer’s loss adjuster. You stay informed at every stage while we handle the paperwork, the technical detail and the negotiation, so you can keep your business running.

It varies with the size and complexity of the loss; a single roof repair settles far faster than a major structural claim with business interruption. We cannot guarantee a timeframe, but we keep the claim moving and pursue interim payments where the insurer’s process allows, so funds reach you as early as possible.

Yes. We can review a claim that is already under way or an offer already on the table, often before you have signed anything. We work nationwide across Ireland and are based in Rush, Co. Dublin. Talk to us before you accept a figure so we can assess whether it reflects your full entitlement.
