The Impact
When your office cannot open, the costs add up fast
An office is more than a building. It is where your team works, where clients meet you, and where your records, systems and reputation live. When damage forces a closure, the disruption reaches far beyond the visible repairs.
Solicitors, accountants, consultancies, agencies and other professional practices all carry the same exposure: lost billable time, displaced staff, interrupted client work and the pressure to be operational again before the insurer has even confirmed the claim. A well prepared claim protects you on every front, not just the bricks and mortar.
Common Office Claims
The damage we see most in offices
Office claims tend to share a small number of causes, but each one can escalate quickly when the building services, fit-out and contents are all affected at once.
- Escape of water from burst pipes, failed heating systems or upstairs tenants, our most common office cause
- Fire and smoke damage to the fit-out, electrics, contents and shared building areas
- Storm and flood damage to ground-floor offices and ground-level building services
- Business interruption, the loss of fee income while the office is unusable
If your damage was caused by a burst or leaking pipe, see our dedicated commercial escape of water claim guidance.
How It Works
From first call to full settlement
We take the claim off your desk so you can focus on keeping the practice running.
We visit the office, inspect the damage and review your policy to confirm what you are entitled to claim.
We document the building, fit-out, IT, contents and lost fee income, then quantify and present the full loss.
We deal with the insurer and their loss adjuster on your behalf, pursuing interim payments where possible.
We work toward the best achievable settlement so you can reinstate the office and get back to clients.
IT, Data & Fee Income
The losses insurers often understate
Two areas are routinely undervalued in office claims, and both can be substantial. The first is IT equipment and data: servers, workstations, network hardware and the cost of recovering or recreating the information held on them. Data recovery, professional reinstatement and re-securing systems are legitimate parts of a properly prepared claim.
The second is business interruption. For a professional practice, the real loss is fee income that could not be earned while the office was out of action. Quantifying that loss correctly takes accounts, billing records and a clear method, which is exactly the kind of detail an insurer is unlikely to build for you. Read more about how this works on our business interruption insurance claim page.
How CICS Manages It
We act for you, not the insurer
The insurer appoints a loss adjuster to protect their position. We are appointed by you to present and protect yours. That structural difference, who each side works for, is the whole reason a properly prepared claim recovers more.
We also handle temporary premises costs where your policy allows, so that relocating staff to a serviced office or alternative space while repairs are carried out is captured in the claim rather than absorbed by your business. From the first inspection to the final figure, we manage the detail end to end. For the full picture across building, contents and interruption cover, see our commercial property insurance claim service. Central Bank of Ireland regulated, Reg. No: C423441, and always no win, no fee.
Client Feedback
Trusted by business owners across Ireland
A burst pipe over the weekend flooded our practice and ruined two workstations and the server. They quantified the IT loss and the fee income we lost while closed, and settled far above the insurer’s first figure.
After a fire in the building we had to move staff to a serviced office for months. They handled the insurer from start to finish and made sure the temporary premises costs were part of the claim.
Common Questions
Your questions, answered
We work on a no win, no fee basis. Our fee is a percentage of the settlement, agreed with you in advance, and there is nothing to pay up front. If there is no recovery, there is no fee.
Make the premises safe, stop any further damage if you can do so safely, and take photographs of everything before anything is cleared. Then call us before you commit to repairs or speak in detail with the insurer, so the loss is documented properly from the start.
It varies with the complexity of the damage and the responsiveness of the insurer. We keep the claim moving, chase the insurer and pursue interim payments where possible so you are not left waiting on cash flow. We cannot guarantee a timeframe, but a well prepared claim avoids the delays caused by missing information.
Yes. We manage the claim end to end, including all correspondence and negotiation with the insurer and their loss adjuster. You stay informed, but you do not have to handle the back and forth yourself.
We act for businesses across Ireland nationwide. We are based in Rush, Co. Dublin, and regularly handle office and professional practice claims throughout Dublin, Leinster and beyond.
Yes. We can review a claim that is already under way, including one where the insurer has made an offer. We will assess whether the figure reflects your full entitlement before you accept anything.
