Handling a Fire Claim
A fire at your premises is one of the most disruptive events a business can face
In the hours and days afterwards, the decisions you make, and what you say to the insurer, can shape the entire claim. Engaging a commercial loss assessor early protects your position and your entitlement, before figures, causes or scope are ever agreed.
Specialist help matters because a fire claim spans several sections of your policy at once. Each element has to be identified and costed correctly, or it simply gets left out of the settlement. The insurer appoints a loss adjuster to act for them; we act only for you.

Client Feedback
Trusted by business owners across Ireland
A fire gutted our kitchen and the smoke ruined the whole dining room. We thought it was just the burnt area, but they found smoke and water damage we had no idea about, and got the lost trade covered too. The final settlement was far beyond what the insurer first suggested.
After a fire in our unit we were completely out of our depth. They dealt with the insurer’s adjuster from start to finish and pushed for an interim payment so we could keep paying staff. Having someone qualified entirely on our side made all the difference.
Common Questions
Your questions, answered
Make the site safe and follow the fire service and Garda guidance; do not re-enter until you are told it is safe. Notify your insurer that an incident has occurred, but avoid agreeing any figures, cause or scope before you have advice. Keep everything as it is, photograph the damage, and hold on to receipts for any emergency works. Then call us so we can attend quickly and protect your position.
You should report the fire, but you do not have to commit to figures, the cause, or the scope of the damage in those first conversations. Early statements and quick estimates can narrow your claim before its full extent is known. It is reasonable to tell the insurer you are appointing a loss assessor and will revert with a full assessment. We then handle the detailed discussions on your behalf.
Yes, and these hidden losses are often substantial. Soot travels well beyond the seat of the fire and contaminates stock, contents and surfaces in areas that never burned. Firefighting water and chemicals can soak into the structure, fittings and equipment. We document this concealed damage in full so it is identified and costed, rather than being missed once the obvious fire damage is repaired.
Reinstating fire-damaged premises often means bringing the building up to current fire safety, building and accessibility standards, which can cost more than a like-for-like repair. Many policies provide cover for these required upgrades, but they are easily overlooked. We review your policy, identify which reinstatement and compliance costs are recoverable, and make sure they are properly included in the claim.
The first assessment is free and there is no obligation. We work on a no win, no fee basis: our fee is a percentage of the final settlement, agreed with you in advance on a case-by-case basis. There is nothing to pay up front, and you only pay once your claim is settled.
Yes. We manage the claim end to end, including all dealings with the insurer and their appointed loss adjuster, so you can focus on getting back to trading. How long it takes depends on the complexity of the loss; a straightforward claim moves faster than a major fire involving structural rebuilding and business interruption. We keep the claim moving and pursue interim payments where possible to ease the financial pressure while it is being settled.
Yes. We are often brought in after a claim has started or even after an offer has been made. We can review your policy, the scope of the damage and any figures on the table, and advise whether elements have been undervalued or left out. We cover Ireland nationwide and are based in Rush, Co. Dublin, so wherever your premises is, we can help.
