The Real Cost
Damage to a factory is never just bricks and machinery
For a manufacturer, a fire, flood or breakdown does far more than damage a building. It halts a production line, leaves customer orders unfulfilled and puts long-standing supply commitments at risk. A retailer can reopen a shop in days; a manufacturer often cannot resume output until specialist plant is sourced, installed and commissioned.
That is why a manufacturing claim has to capture the full chain of loss, not just the obvious physical repairs. Production downtime, contractual penalties and the cost of buying in stock to keep customers supplied can dwarf the building damage itself, and these are exactly the heads of loss that insurers tend to question hardest.
Common Claims
The losses we see most often in manufacturing
Manufacturing sites face a particular mix of risks, and the largest part of the loss is frequently the interruption to trading rather than the damage you can see. We assess and present each head of loss in full so nothing is left on the table.
- Fire and explosion damage to factory buildings, plant and finished goods
- Machinery and breakdown losses, where damage to a single line stops the whole operation
- Storm, flood and water damage to buildings, stock and raw materials
- Business interruption and loss of gross profit while you cannot produce
We handle the full commercial fire damage claim alongside the business interruption insurance claim so the building works and the trading loss are pursued as one coordinated case.

Plant & Production
Valuing machinery, plant and the cost of lost production
Specialist manufacturing plant is rarely a simple replacement. Lead times for bespoke or imported machinery can run to months, and the true cost includes removal, installation, recommissioning and the loss you carry while the line is down. Insurers do not always reflect these realities in an opening offer.
We value plant and machinery on the correct basis under your policy and quantify the production delay losses that flow from it, from extended downtime to the expense of outsourcing work or buying in stock to honour customer orders. Raw materials, work in progress and finished goods are assessed as part of your business contents and stock insurance claim so the whole picture is presented together.
Reinstatement & Contamination
Specialist reinstatement timelines and contamination claims
Getting a factory back into production is a technical project in its own right. Reinstatement often has to follow a careful sequence: make safe, strip out, decontaminate, rebuild, then install and commission plant before output can resume. Each stage affects how long you are off line, and the timeline directly drives your business interruption settlement.
Smoke, soot, chemical and water contamination can render stock, raw materials and machinery unusable even where they look intact, particularly in food, pharma and precision manufacturing. We document contamination claims thoroughly, with the specialist input needed to show what truly cannot be salvaged, so your settlement reflects the full extent of the loss.

Client Feedback
Trusted by business owners across Ireland
A fire took out our main production line and we thought we were finished. They valued the plant properly, fought for the downtime losses and secured interim payments that kept us trading while we rebuilt.
The insurer’s first offer ignored the cost of replacing specialist machinery and the orders we lost. CICS presented the full claim and the final settlement was a different world from where it started.
Common Questions
Your questions, answered
We work on a no win, no fee basis. Our fee is a percentage of the final settlement, agreed with you in advance and case by case. There is nothing to pay up front, and if there is no settlement there is no fee.
Make the site safe and prevent further damage where you can, then record everything with photos and notes before anything is cleared. Avoid disposing of damaged plant or stock until it has been assessed. Call us early so we can attend, protect your position and start building the claim properly.
It varies with the complexity of the damage, the reinstatement works and the business interruption involved. Major losses with specialist plant naturally take longer than straightforward repairs. We keep the claim moving and pursue interim payments where possible so your cash flow is supported along the way.

Yes. We can review a claim that is already under way or an offer that has been made. Insurers often value plant, downtime and contamination losses too low at first, and there is frequently scope to present the full picture and improve the outcome.
